Tom Wheeland

Tom has recently joined Strohm Ballweg, LLP as a Tax Director.

Tom has over 35 years of experience consulting with property-casualty, life, and health insurers of all sizes.  Tom’s areas of expertise include tax compliance, tax planning, business and strategic planning, and income tax accounting process improvement.  He has authored one of the preeminent whitepapers on income tax accounting for insurance companies and is a frequent speaker at industry forums.  Tom has served on multiple NAIC working groups and recently received the IASA’s “Speaker/Educator of the Year Award.”  He previously served as a Tax Managing Director at PwC and as the National Insurance Practice Leader for BKD (now Forvis Mazars).

What are you passionate about?
Making people comfortable.  I try to put people at ease so they can be the best versions of themselves.  Also, ice cream….

If you were not an accountant, what would you be?
A rodeo clown or sports mascot.

What advice do you have for others?
“It is all going to be alright!”  That is the mindset I try to employ and instill in others when facing a challenge.  It helps me reset, accept the current state of things, and focus on the path forward.
